I find a bench in the park
and feed the pigeons my stale cheeseburger,
I stop and listen to a busker murder Hallelujah

I saw two dead foxes by the hotdog stand,
the sky’s the colour of a milkshake
and the hip flask in my hand ran out an hour ago

I called by to see Joe at the infirmary,
took him an old NME from the glam rock days,
But the ghost propped up
on pillows must be just Joes shadow,
And there’s no way back to any safe place
And I’m twirling in deep space alone,
Like that song said, No direction home

So I kill some time in a secondhand bookstore
Run by this albino guy
with a head shaped like a Halloween pumpkin
I stand at the window watching
the wind rolling a Coke can
I came across this postcard,
I slipped it in my bag
Of a squad of GIs raising that Iwo Jima flag
But I left it lying in some bar
